Once again Eid is here. The day when Muslims worldwide triumph over their battle against hunger and thirst during the holy month of Ramadan. More importantly one has learnt the important values instilled during fasting. Of patience and self-control. Establishing closure with the Almighty. Helping the needy with monetary assistance. For it is the time of giving and sharing what you have to those who need it more. A time when Muslims come as one to help one another and show the world what a united community Muslims really are.

Most of all, distant families visiting each other and ask for forgiveness, strengthening the relationship and blood ties.

I wish all my Muslim brothers and sisters a very joyous Eid. May Allah bless us all and accept our good deeds and redeem them propotionally, be it on Earth or in heaven.

One day left to the dawn of the happy month of Eid, yet here I am stone cold with the flu and a sore throat.

My best guess is that I must have acquired it on the way to Sin Min Rd this afternoon, to collect the taxi vouchers that I had won in the One, Two, Free lucky draw. Indeed, I am the lucky winner for the month of August. It rained a little bit in the early afternoon over here at the east side. And I am guilty with exposing my skull to the cruelty of acid rain.

Now I lay in bed waiting for the medicine to kick in.

Oh the agony of womanhood! Inflicting soreness around the hips, draining out the entire body. And I lay on my side, curled up in a fetal position, cushioning the rage within the womb. Day Two is always the worst.

On the bright side, exams are over. This examination period concludes Year 2 of my degree course. Hoping for the best in the results, Hazril and I will both be promoted to Year 3 next month.

CSCI 203 paper was a killer. Everyone died in the exam hall and came out as zombies. Figuratively speaking, that is. For the record, compared to IACT 202, only about 5 students left early for this paper. I bet they gave up trying. The rest struggled on until the end of the paper.

As the invigilators gathered our answer sheets, everyone sat quietly, gloomily. Nobody finished the paper. Silently, everyone is damning the lecturer who set the paper. And the same guy who gave out the exam tips. Because in the end none of the tips helped. There might as well have not been a tip at all. Useless and disappointing.

To ease the post-exam stress, I dyed my hair copper at Kimage. Now I look like Tyra Banks and probably get more data speed on my wireless because of all the copper going on on my head. Kidding.

A little bit of retail therapy is good for the soul.

Hazril and I had our last day of exam revision together today at the SIM library. Tomorrow, our last paper awaits. CSCI 203, the last hurdle of year 2 of my Bachelor. After this, it's one more year left for us both and WE'RE OUTTA HERE FOR GOOD!

It was a rather short revision. We left at 4pm++. Hazril planned to cheer me up by getting me another Betta. I'm so over Mermaid's passing early this morning. Life must go on.

So we headed down to Sunset Way again and I brought home a baby short tail Betta. He's tiny as compared to Flippy and a pretty swift swimmer. The way he swifts his short red-blue striped tail like a water sleeve as he spreads it wide open, is so cheerful to look at. I named him Swift after the adjective. He's a big eater too. I've fed him thrice in two hours and he sucks his tank clean like a vacuum cleaner. Not a single flake in sight!

Welcome to the family, Swift.

Date 15th September. Mermaid, my blue half-crown tail Betta succumbed to Fin Rot and lack of immunity.

Now there's only Flippy and me.

I couldn't fight off my worries for my little critter. I left the examination hall early today. A little later than my love though. I saw him walk out an hour before the time the paper ended. I left just before the last 20 minutes. No one is allowed to leave the examination hall during that period. Waiting is torture. Counted my marks and reckoned I'd manage a Credit, at least.

I was determined to visit the chain of fish shops in Sunset Way, just a few bus stops away from SIM HQ. Hazril tagged along for advice. He's the aquarium guru.

Walked into the first shop and went straight for the medication shelf. Guru said, "Ahh...too expensive. Let's go see other shops...". The second shop was a little older than the first and had more range of products than the first. Plus the owner offered more help than the first. So I purchased AquaMedi Quit Bact anti-bacterial for Mermaid's tank for $6++. And then we returned to the first shop to view the array of fishes for pleasure and other products when I had a sudden impulse to get a filter for Mermaid's tank as well. I got the smallest they have for $7++ and we're off. On the bus home Hazril offered more fishy advice.

I reached home after that and put my stuff down and set up the filter in Mermaid's tank after a 100% WC and added the medication. Well it turned out to be a lot bigger than I had expected because the filter protruded out of the water surface by 5%. My tank is really small.

Mermaid couldn't get used to it at first due to his small size, he kept getting sucked into the filter and was swimming frantically away from it but kept getting pushed away by the currents of the clean water re-entering the water surface. Poor Mermaid. I almost gave up thinking that perhaps installing this filter was a bad idea as it contributes more stress towards my sick fish so I turned it off. But then I thought I'd better let Mermaid get used to it. After all it's good for his bacterial treatment.

Looks to me now that he's managed to find a comfortable spot to float and rest while his new biological surroundings heal him.

I blame it on my own negligence toward my dear critter. Mermaid, my blue half-crown tail Betta which I have owned for nearly a year now, is suffering from a fin-eating bacteria called Fin Rot. His majestic crown tail has begun to fall off, nearly fifty percent gone by the time I had noticed it. I immediately knew the cause of it. This week has been study week and I haven't been diligent on changing my Betta's tank water. There was a day when the ammonia level rose so high that my whole room was pungent. I had to get up at 6.30am to change the tank water because the stench of it was disturbing my morning slumber. I'm guessing that was where it all began. Luckily though Flippy, my half-moon tail Betta is alright while Mermaid just floated near the surface, motionless, and I reckon, in fishly pain.

Though alarmed with Mermaid's condition, I still had to stay home to study for my exams tomorrow. Otherwise I would have at least gone to Toa Payoh to find a fish shop for some T1 anti-bacterial remedy to treat Mermaid's Fin Rot. But my degree comes first and I have put it off till after tomorrow's paper.

All I have now is a grain of hope that Mermaid holds on to dear life and that the bacteria doesn't spread so fast. My study notes lay spread on the table with my Betta fishes at the end where I can see them.
